Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9492 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9492 was built in October of 1950 and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. They're rounding the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Note how close the visitors are to the train!
