IORY 3525
Our gambling paid off. Majorly. Sure enough, the second shift CIND job was up working Seimer Mills. We honestly could not believe our eyes, but given how today had gone so far, it should not have been a surprise! This line in particular has always been of interest to me, given its true branch line feel following the Whitewater River. Some buildings along the tracks are mere feet from the rails! Due to a major washout in 2013(?), IORY opted to abandon the line north of West Harrison as the cost of rebuilding was too much, despite the glass factory in Brookville being such a large customer. Since then, sand is still delivered by rail, but it is transloaded from rail ro road from Camden to Brookville from Norfolk Southern. Most of the rail remains in place though, so. if traffic volumes increase, there is no saying that it wont be rebuilt. But, it isnt looking likely. Despite that, we at least still have this small section of the Brookville Sub left! We set up shop at Broadway Street and about 15 minutes later IORY L272, as the crew was calling themselves, called departin Seimer Mills. Look how close that building is to the rails! There were several locations along this branch line like this. But, the only place to see something like this with a train still running is here in West Harrison.
